Significant strides in web-based technology have presented a new
set of opportunities for GIS users. Small to large implementations now have the
ability to leverage the Internet as a very cost-effective solution to organize
and access data to support a variety of applications. The desire to control
initial software costs and continuing license maintenance fees, combined with
need to distribute GIS feature and attribute data to a large number of
typically disconnected personnel support the implementation of a web-based
solution. Most users want easy access to specific data (e.g., owner of a
property) or general map layers (e.g., zoning map). The typical GIS user will
not require editing capabilities. These combined general criteria can be wholly
supported through a web-based approach, providing a first-rate, cost-effective
technology solution.
The DataViewer IMS customization is similar to the DataViewer 8
customization, except that it works with ArcIMS, and enhances the experiences
of users of our Internet mapping solutions.
