Ridgewood Return on Investment (ROI)

Civil Solutions, the geospatial services division of ARH Associates, recently teamed up with Ridgewood Water to bring their data management practices into the modern age. Working closely with Ridgewood’s Water Department, we moved their vast store of water system data from an outdated format into a streamlined GIS System. This transformation makes it easier for Ridgewood Water to organize, access, and share essential information with field teams, empowering them to work with greater efficiency and accuracy.

 

For Ridgewood, an immediate priority was to meet New Jersey’s new law requiring water utilities to inventory and replace all lead and galvanized service lines by 2031. With over 18,000 service connections, this would have required extensive and costly inspections. Civil Solutions used GIS analysis to identify which lines needed replacement, revealing that 83% of Ridgewood’s connections were lead-free, allowing the department to focus only on necessary inspections. This data-driven approach saved significant time and costs, allowing Ridgewood Water to stay ahead of regulatory deadlines without overextending resources.

 

By incorporating GIS tools into Ridgewood Water’s operations, Civil Solutions helped the department save an estimated $7 million in inspection costs. In addition to the financial benefits, GIS technology provided Ridgewood’s teams with real-time tracking capabilities, meaning field crews could log inspection results instantly, keeping everyone from managers to field staff informed and ready to respond quickly. This immediate access to accurate data has streamlined Ridgewood’s daily operations, making it easier to prioritize and complete critical tasks.
